Amendment 2 defeated, but choice, change still needed

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, November 5, 2024

LEXINGTON, Ky - Bluegrass Institute issued the following statement regarding the defeat of Amendment 2 in Tuesday’s election:

This amendment campaign may be over, but our commitment to education freedom in Kentucky is buoyed by the fact that more than 700,000 Kentuckians supported expanding opportunities for parents without means to choose a school that works better for their children.

The challenges facing Kentucky’s public education system remain, including low proficiency rates, widening academic achievement gaps between low-income and higher-income students and skyrocketing spending. We remain committed to advancing education-choice policies that will empower parents without means and bring improvement to our public education system.

We will continue to focus on bringing more accountability and transparency to our public education system, which – despite record funding by lawmakers – is failing to adequately prepare a majority of our students for future success.
