Video: Institute for Justice discusses the Individual Mandate

In this video, the Institute for Justice (IJ) discusses its take on Obamacare’s most volatile policy – the individual mandate. This mandate would force all United States citizens to have health care coverage either through and employer or through some sort of government funded plan.

In the video, IJ makes a great point that throughout the history of American law, contracts hinge on the voluntary involvement of two parties.  With the Supreme Court of the United States expected to announce its ruling on the constitutionality of Obamacare any day now, this video is well worth sharing.

Innovate education too! What do you think?

Technology innovation has experienced an explosion of activity in the past few decades. Why has this innovation not caught on in education? The Colorado Legacy Foundation has created a fantastic video that asks just that question. This video is straightforward, asks direct questions, and  is particularly timely as the Bluegrass Institute has been releasing a series of videos about digital learning. Check the Colorado Legacy Foundation’s video below.

This is a conversation that needs to take place in every state and on the national level. What do you think?

How cost efficient is digital learning?

In the fifth video in our digital learning series, education analyst Richard Innes talks about the efficiency of digital learning.

Education Commissioner: Kentucky committed to technology in schools

This past Friday, Kentucky Commissioner of Education Terry Holliday reconfirmed the Bluegrass State’s commitment to using technology in our schools. You can read his comments, which include information about a number of interesting technology tools, here.

By the way, one subject the commissioner didn’t cover was using digital learning to make summer course offerings more affordable to school districts. We know that a number of school districts did use digital learning for summer ‘credit recovery’ courses last year, but a number of other districts did not.

With funding getting tight in many schools around the state, digitally based summer courses could offer an affordable answer for helping our students stay on track for high school graduation. Without such economical approaches, some of our students might not have any opportunity to catch back up this summer.

If you or your child experienced summer digital learning last year, we’d like to hear about how that worked out. Also, if your school district isn’t planning to offer credit recovery this summer, you should contact your local board members to let them know that digital learning might be an answer. We’d be glad to help facilitate getting more districts on board with summer digital learning.
