Text Box: ACT Based Score-Spending Index (SSI) Spreadsheet

The worksheets in this file contain the SSI information for Kentucky's public high schools.

For details on the development of these spreadsheets, see the Bluegrass institute's companion report, "Bang for the Buck: How Cost Effective Are Kentucky's Public Schools," which is on line in the www.bipps.org Web site.

There are three worksheets. The first sheet lists all schools sorted by their ACT-based SSI. The second sheet, shaded in green, lists only those schools that score at or above the state average ACT Composite score. This sheet is also sorted by SSI score. The third sheet in each set shows those schools that score below the ACT average.

Note that the ACT average score reported here is different from the score reported by ACT, Inc. for several reasons. First, this is a simple average of the individual high school average scores for schools in the assembled database. It is not an average of all public high school student scores in Kentucky. Also, this data only includes public schools, while the ACT, Inc. report covers students from all schools, public and private. Private school students score higher on the ACT, thus the average overall is higher when the private school students are included.
