How did the media miss this story????
The story about Maya Angelou criticizing President Obama’s education policies actually ran in the MSNBC Web site half a year ago, but I don’t recall any other media – especially media here in Kentucky – picking up on this extraordinary situation. Do you?
That leads to the second half of this post – a new report from Fred Hess and Mike McShane at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) discussing “Flying under the radar? Analyzing Common Core media coverage.”
The AEI team asked a question about why it took so long for criticism of Common Core State Standards to surface.
The article makes a good case that the media did a lousy job of informing the public about things that impact the public. Like the Angelou situation, it seems like the media isn’t carrying the mail for its readership, which is why we think the Bluegrass Institute has an important role to play, sometimes highlighting both good things and problems no-one else is telling you about.
If you agree, I hope you will consider supporting the Bluegrass Institute. You can do that by clicking here.
