Bluegrass Institute’s Capitol Briefing will
focus on environment, energy
Forum will offer info on ‘warming-alarmist’ group, potential of nuclear power, and clean coal technology in the commonwealth
(Frankfort, Ky.) – An upcoming Capitol Briefing presented by the Bluegrass Institute will shine the light on an environmental extremist group that recently set up shop in Frankfort, and the promise of coal and nuclear technology for the commonwealth's future energy needs.
The briefing will be held from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wed., March 24, in Room 113 of the Capitol Annex in Frankfort. A box lunch will be provided (RSVP to ksmith@freedomkentucky.com required for lunch.)
The Kentucky Climate Action Plan Council is a front group for the Center for Climate Strategies, a "warming-alarmist organization" out of Washington, according to Paul Chesser, special correspondent for the Chicago-based Heartland Institute.
Chesser warns: Based on what's happened in other states, the panel operates under the radar with the goal of enticing Gov. Steve Beshear to issue executive orders that "raise energy prices and diminish consumer freedom."
Chesser will speak at Wednesday's briefing, along with Physicist Steven C. Barrowes, Ph.D., of Radcliff, who will offer research-based insight concerning the economic challenges facing the development and widespread use of clean coal technology.
Barrowes also will discuss the promise offered by nuclear power. The state Senate recently approved legislation lifting a moratorium on nuclear plants in Kentucky.
"Low energy costs is one of Kentucky's best selling points in attracting new companies and jobs," said Jim Waters, director of policy and communications at the Bluegrass Institute, Kentucky's free-market think tank. "The commonwealth's energy policy is simply too important to allow Washington's insiders and extremists to hijack and drive toward higher prices and oppressive regulation."
